Adele – A Major Breakthrough

Adele entered the music business when she was 18 years old, right after her graduation. Only three years after that, she was recognized as the Best New Artist.

Adele named all of her records after her age:

‘’19’’ is her debut album, which was released in 2008 and gained a Platinum certificate in the US.  Her first song for the album was the one she wrote at the age of 16th – “Hometown Glory.”

‘’21’’ is Adele's second album released in 2011. It ranked 17 times Platinum in the UK and got a Diamond certificate in the US. “Someone Like You,” “Rolling in the Deep” and “Set Fire to the Rain” are some of the hits there.

‘’25’’ is the third album released in 2015 and certified as Diamond in the US. We can mention some of the songs from this album: ”Hello”, “When We Were Young,” “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” and “Water Under the Bridge.”

In 2009 she won two awards for her album ‘’19’’ – Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

In 2011 Adele received 3 awards: Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for her album ‘’21’’.

In 2012 Adele won six Grammy Awards for her second album ‘’21’’, including Album of the Year; 2 Brit Awards, including British Album of the Year. She also got three American Music Awards, including Favorite Pop Album.

The success of  ”21” led to the artist's name to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In 2016, some more British awards came for Adele – for British Female Solo Artist, British Album of the Year for the album ‘’25’’, British Single of the Year for “Hello,” and British Global Success.

She was twice recognized as a Songwriter of the Year in 2012 and 2016.

Tours and live performances

Adele is a good, honest, emotional artist and person. She likes to meet with her fans. Hence, she organized live tours for each of her albums.

‘’An Evening with Adele’’ was the first tour, being more like a promotion of her debut album ‘’19’’.

‘’Adele Live’’ was the second tour where a live band surrounded the artist with great musicians and some of the songs she sang only with a piano on the background. Unfortunately, she canceled some of the dates due to issues with her voice and possible surgery.

”Adele Live 2016” tour promoted her third album ”25,”, and even though she strived to give the fans a live performance, she had to cancel some of the appearances again due to vocal trauma.

Adele was the first female solo artist to win so many awards for the first time: first place for best single with three of her singles from the same album; first song to have over million downloads in one week; her album ”25” ranks as the fastest-selling album in UK history with a record of over three million copies sold in one week; the first artist to win the best album, single, and music video in the same year.
